Book Selection: Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow
They say not to judge a book by its cover, but that cover art is perfection! That being said, it definitely drew me in, but there are so many more reasons why this was chosen to kick off a new year of Books & Hooks! Doors, January, it just screams NEW YEAR to me.

The pattern is special for this month in so many ways. 2020 was a tough year, and I know most folks are ready to welcome in a new year, open new doors and just have a fresh start. Beth from Fig and Filament has designed a gorgeous welcome mat pattern that offers multiple sizes. The special size has 10,061 stitches to be as close to 10,000 to pair with our book as possible! How cool is that? The pattern can be purchased at the following locations and a discount code for half off has been emailed to all members. The code is good for the first week, then the patterns will remain $1 off for the rest of the month.
Here are a few pattern details:
– The approximate 24×36 size contains 10 thousand stitches (10,061 to be exact)
– Recommended yarn is two colors of Lion Brand Rewind, 600-1600 yd (one skein of contrast color for the three smaller sizes, two recommended for the largest one). Many yarns can be substituted as long as gauge is followed.
– This pattern uses granite stitch, so this project is exploring its striping qualities and ability to look (and feel) like a woven rug. Alternating rows of granite stitch with solid single crochet allows you change the width of the stripes for a subtle variation along the edges of the rug.
